What is the Carers’ Services?

Connect to Support Bradford is a website for all adults and families in the Bradford district.

The service is to provide help and support for unpaid carers to have a life of their own along with their caring role. This is done by helping carers to discover opportunities for social and leisure activities as well as training, work and education If you would like more information please see the Carer’s Resource website Carer’s Resource website

How does the service work?

The service works across the Bradford and Craven districts with locally based staff active across the whole area. The service is supported by GP surgeries and a range of health and social care professionals and is active in a range of community venues. Contact Carers Resource for details of support venues in your area. The service supports carers’ to lead a life outside their caring role and to take action to relieve the strain of caring.

  • Links to other useful resources from the website
  • support for isolated carers
  • practical carer support
  • A review of the carers’ wellbeing will identify the support that can be provided
  • carers information tailored to individual needs and circumstances
  • carers will be told about services for themselves and/or the person they care for
  • carers will be shown how to plan for emergencies
  • a service that can advocate on behalf of carers, and allow a carer to find ways to access support
  • carers’ will be able to share experiences of caring and access breaks, education, training, leisure and employment
  • a carers small grant which provides small one-off payments to carers to promote their own health and well-being and relieve carer strain
  • supporting professionals and raising carer awareness
  • a way for carers’ voices to be heard by local decision makers

Who is it for?

Unpaid Carers of any age who live in or care for someone who lives in the Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven areas. People who undertake caring as part of their paid employment or their voluntary work for an organisation are not able to access this service.

Carers Resource also provide support to Young Carers alongside their support for adult carers.

How do I access this service?

  • online access at all times
  • out-of-hours information for carers to contact emergency assistance, leave messages or use the website

Opening times:

  • At the Shipley base, Monday to Thursday 08.30 am to 5pm, Friday 0830 – 4.30 pm (excluding Bank Holidays), late opening one evening a week.
  • Support at local venues across the District is available at other times, early morning and early evening appointments by arrangement contact Carers Resource for details.
  • Where it is not possible for carers to leave the home, home visits will be made by appointment

The Carers Service is provided for free, however, charges may apply for other services carers are directed to, including those services from a provider. The service will let carers know what charges apply.
