New Choices - Age UK
Bradford Provider List
Age UK campaigns for older people and provides a range of services across the country.
New Choices has worked in partnership with Age UK, in the Shipley area, for several years.
Six people attend each day who have a willingness to learn and develop new skills and be working behind the scenes and also customer facing in a shop.
They have the opportunity to work alongside each other while developing positive friendships and confidence. The service offers the hustle and bustle of working life in a supporting work environment.
Responsibilities and tasks:
- Receive the delivery of clothing to be processed.
- Learn how to work in each workstation, for example, separating rags from clothing to be processed, repair clothing, cleaning of items, steaming and ironing of clothing, general presentation of clothing and items ready for the shop floor.
- In addition to the practical tasks needed for the function of the charity shop, to develop communication skills with your peer group, follow a routine and structure and have fun with your friends.
- The people attend the ‘New Voices @ New Choices’ forum where they can share their views, concerns and any changes to the service they attend.
If you want to learn new skills while having fun and making friends, please call in so we can share our experiences with you!
